Commissioned by the Irish Writers Centre, supported by ART: 2016
Watch six contemporary Irish poets read original works at various locations around Dublin where events of the 1916 Rising took place. You can view these videos from the comfort of your own home or follow the trail around the city, soaking up the atmosphere and imagining the historic moments that inspired these poets.
The Irish Writers Centre commissioned six poems – one for each day of the Rising – from the following influential poets: Eiléan Ní Chuilleanáin, Paul Muldoon, Jessica Traynor, Nuala Ní Dhomhnaill, Theo Dorgan and Thomas McCarthy. Their poems reflect on significant figures and events associated with the Rising including James Connolly, Patrick Pearse, Dr Kathleen Lynn, Elizabeth OFarrell and Michael Joseph O’Rahilly. Each poet has been filmed performing their poem at relevant and resonant locations including Liberty Hall, the GPO, City Hall, ORahilly Parade, Moore Street and the Garden of Remembrance. Colm Mac Con Iomaire composed the original score for these short films.
