"For me, writing a sequel to A Christmas Carol was a way of reexamining the book, to explore ideas Dickens set forth by imaging what might come next. The original says very little of the storys aftermath, stating in two short paragraphs that Tiny Tim survives and Scrooge becomes renowned for his goodness. I often wondered how that might play out. How does a reformed man deal with the burden of past guilt? How would those who knew Scrooge before and after his transformation relate to him? What aspects of his personality would persist? And finally, what is his legacy to those closest to him? These were among the questions I had in mind when I began "Scrooge & Cratchit." "
